Wanganui Supreme. Court

At the sittings of the Wanganui Su- * preme Court, Whelan was sentenced to - three months for false pretences r and C. W. Langstone for forgery to two years hard labor. Two other previous convictions for forgery were recorded against ' the prisoner.

In the abduction case against Nanghtort the jury brought in a verdict of not guilty. At the verdict being delivered there was some applause, whereupon His Honor remarked : " I have no doubt the jury hava come to |' his couo'usion owing to the * great difficulty of establishment- of the girl's age. Still it is monstrous that " a man should take a girl away from her parents and cohabit with her and receive this applause in a Court of Justice.
