Mr Frankland is to combine the position of Commissioner with tho supe vision of the actnari d work, and Mr Luckie is to be assistant Commissioner receiving the same salary as now.

A child named Ethel Orendore was burned to death to day at Ngapara, in the absence of its mother. The child obtained possession of some matches, and one of these having ignited, set fire to its clothing. Before the child was noticed it was burned so severely that it died.

The Bank of New Zealand to-day foreclosed on the Auckland Tramways Company, and placed an agent in charge of the tramway. The Anglican Synod passed a motion to-day affirming that more public notice of intending marriages in the Colony should be giyen than the present law provides for. Archdeacon Willis, who moved the resolution, said its object was to protect women, by preventing such occurrences as that of the marriage of a man who already had a wif« living.
