This morning Dunkeld did a splendid mile and a quarter at Caulfield, nine furlongs in 2min. lsec. Meteor did a good mile and a half, but pulled up lame at the finish. Benzon is doing good work at Caulfield, and promises to advance in the betting for the Melbourne Cup. Silver Prince has been scratched for the big race at Flemington. October 11. The following are the probable starters for the Guineas, run to-morrow ■:—Merriment, Consort, Rudolph, Carrington, Adventuress, Montalto, Copenhagen. 6to 4 is laid on Rudolph for this race. " Augur," in the Australian, tips as follows for the Caulfield meeting : — Caulfield Stakes — Carbine, Drednought, Benzon, or Bravo. Guineas — Signapore or Rudolph, Carrington and Prince Consort. Dunkeld, who is reported to have been sold for £2000, has been backed for the Caulfield Cup to the extent of £3000 in one hand, that amount being laid to £240. £2000 to £1000 was taken about the doiible Rudolph (Caulfield Guineas) and Drednought (V.R.C. Derby.)
