Feilding Cricket Club

A meeting of persons interested in the formation of a cricket club for the forthcoming season was held at Light's Hotel , last evening. ; Mr J. Wrightson, the secretary and treasurer of the cricket chib of last season, was chairman and explained the object for which the meeting had been called. Mr Valentine proposed, and Mr Benson seconded, That a cricket club be formed, to be called the Feilding Cricket Club. — Carried. The chairman read a financial statement, which showed that there was about 2s 6d in hand from last year together with fencing and other material. A discussion was held as to what should be the amount of the subscription to the new club, and it was ultimately decided to fix the subscription at 5s each member. The election of officers then took place, with the following result : — Mr Macarthur, president ; Mr Lethbridge, vice-president ; Mr J. Wrightson, secretary and Treasurer. Captains to be selected by each match team respectively. The following were elected a committee : — Messrs Pringle, Valentine, Light, W. Stevens, and the officers, ex-officio. It was arranged for the next general meeting to be held on Thursday the 10th instant, at Light's Hotel at 7.30 p.m. Resolved, That no member be allowed to practice on the ground before his subscription is paid. It was proposed, That no member of any other club shall be picked to play for Feilding in matches unless a resident of Feilding. An amendment was proposed, That a second eleven be formed to be allowed to play in as many matches as the senior eleven if possible, and that all persons who pay their subscriptions shall be allowed to play for the club. The amendment was carried by a majority of one vole. The usual compliment to the chair concluded the business.
