The Heathen Chinee
1 PBB UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION. I Hokitika, September 80. At the Magistrate's Court this morning a Chinaman named 'Ah Sung was sentenced to six months for selling spurious gold. It appears that the accused broke pieces of metal — copper, brass, or iron and partly fused them in a crucible, and then painted them with gold paint. If a small quantity had been mixed with ordinary gold the imposture would not have been detected.
