The Manchester Rifles will parade on Friday next for inspection. After the drill a meeting will be held when a proposal will be considered to celebrate the anniversary of the corps. ; The Wangauui Chroniole says:— We regret to notice that several members of the Alexandra Cavalry did not appear at their ball in uniform. This ■should not have been allowed, and we are surprised that the committee permitted them to apper in mufti. A circular nn.r.itd " confidential," and addressed to officers. commanding districts, was issued from the Defence Office, setting forth that it had been brought under the notice of the Minister for Defence that in some instances officers commanding Volunteer Corps had allowed outsiders dressed in uniforms of corps to personate Volunteers in the ranks, in order to obtain capitation grants. Also, that in other, cases-blanks are yetin the rear rank, which are ' filled ' up from the supernumerary rank, the non-commissioned afterwards stepping back into their proper places. It also mentions that some non-commissioned officers had manipulated parade states.
