A verdict was given in favour of Mrs Browne for £4927 damages against the National Bauk, on account of the loss of debentures deposited in the bank, and stolen by Onyons, the security clerk. A man named George Scurr attempted to commit suicide on Saturday evening by drowniug himself in the Yarra, but was rescued by two young men, who jumped in aftei him. At Clark's Hill, Bungaree, Eliza Heaney, aged 14, was accidently shot by her brother, aged 17. The lad was shooting sparrows, when the girl, suddenly coming round a corner, received ihe shot in the head. No hopes are entertained of her recover}'. At a meeting of the Presbytery it was decided to urge the General Assembly to move in the direction of a reinstatement of Bible-reading in State schools. Patterson Commissioner of Customs, opposed placing a duty on food, but would consider the advisableness of a duty on smoked and salt fish, but fresh fish would available to the public at a reasonable price. Sydney, August 11. Two more bodies, mdentified as those of Dan Mason and Elder Teate, were recovered from the Glebe pit on Sunday.
