Football

The Feilding football team journeyed to Woodville on Saturday to play the fifth cup match of the season, and after one of the most pleasant games the team has ever played, they came off victorious by 7 points (2 goals and a try) to nil. Bray, Stuart, and Parr scored a try apiece, two of which Bobinson converted into goals. The team arrived home on Sunday afternoon and they were all highly pleased with the enjoyable trip they had, and they all speak in the hightest term of praise of the cord;al vyebome they received from their adversaries, and particularly from host Murphy who treated them like princes. The football match, Marton v. Feilding (second fifteens), resulted in a victory for the latter by 11 points to nil. Soon after the kick off, Iyeson secured a try, but the kick at goal was not succespful. Marton took the ball down the field, but Feilding soon had them on the defensive Before the end of the first spell. Harmer had got two tries and Terry one, each of which Bellve converted into goals. At half-time this left the score Feilding, 10 ; Marton nil. In the second spell Marton brushed up, and only a try was registered against them, got by Dixon. The game was very friendly throughout. Tha Marton team lacked combination, and when ever they got a good rush on were sure to over- run the ball. In the second spell they pressed Feilding eeyeral times, and played very well for a team which had so many new recruits at work. Messrs Harmer, Iveson, Terry, and Bilderbeck were the most conspicuous on the victors' side, and Messrs Broad, Brooking, Wing, Smith, Humphrey, and Deiguton (2), (especially the younger), tried hard to avert defeat. — Marton paper. The Marton first fifteen played a football match against the Wanganui second, at Wanganui on Saturday last, and won by 6 points to nil.
