Up to 2 o'clock to-day the petition in favour of Chemis had increased by 12 lists rebeived, showing 1182 names, or. an average, of 98 per list, whilst the list of Mr Fernandoz shows additional signatures to the number of 200, which, with the 43 lists already accounted for, gives a sum total Of 4550 names. One of the prisoners was found in possession of part of a newspaper of which the alleged other part appeared to have been left by them at the scene of the crime.
