Christckurch, July 19
A lad named Frederick Simmons jumped off the Bichmond oinmbns in front of a passing cab this morning. The horse knocked him down, and the wheel passed over hiß forehead, inflicting serious wounds, from which he died this evening. A labourer Darned Thomas Martin, who had been in the habit of taking turpentine in small doses for rheumatism, died last night at Sydenham shortly after returning from work, having 1 taken the usual dose, and while his wife was rubbing the affected joints. James Tregair, head storeman at Miles and Oo.'s for 30 years, died this morning He was much respects by his employers and citizens.
Secretary was scratched for the 3rand National at 3 p.m. to-day. Ahua worked this morning, and went three times round at a good pace, being much admired. Daddy Longlegs went twice strong on the tan. Louis did a nice two rounds, sweat ing freely. Monteagle, after once round the tan, pulling hard, took the post and rails faultlessly, though a trifle sore. Orangeman looks very fit.
