Produce Market

The New Zealand Trade Review of the 15th June says : — Flax. — Although London cables report a downward tendency in the market for New Zealand flax, millowoers in this district are not disposed to sell under £19 to £20 per ton, f.o.b. at Wellington. Apparently a few orders have been received from Home at limits about equal to these rates, and this tends to steady the market. Those millers who have shipped on their own account since tl>e beginning of the year, and have ob tamed from £34 to £37 for their flax, prefer to continue to take the risk of the market, rather than accept local current rates. A fair amount of las: ness ia being done locally, but w© iegret:;.to notice that a few bran Is hare turned out decidedly inferior in quality, and we fear that Wellington shipments generally will suffer seiiously in consequence. Flour and Grain. — The active competition of American wheat in the Australian markets, has reduced our values for both, wheat and flour. Quotations now rule from £10 10s to £10 455,' .f0r roll»rmill, and £9 10s to £10 for stone-mill flour. Milling vheat is not worth more than 3/8 to 3/9 a decline of 3d to 4d per bushel. Fowls' wheat is in good supply at 3/7 to 3/8 for whole grain, and 3/3 for screenings. Oats are improved m value by fully 2d per bushel, and as holders seem inclined to stand for full prices, and Australian demand continues good, it is probable that rates will be maintained and perhaps further enhanced. We quote good feed 3/- to 3/1 per bushel. Fungus — This market is still stagnant. The present quotation is 3£d per pound, with no inquiry.
