In the Supreme Court to-day th« action of Wheeler y. the South British Insurance Company was decided. The plaintiff who was the owrer of the steamei Alhainbra, which sank while engaged attempting to recover a derelict vessel outside Sydney harbour, sought to recovei the sum of £6000, being the amouut ol the insurance on the vessel. The Court non- suited the plaintiff on toe ground that the Alhambra was engaged in work outside the terms of the policy. June 7. The practical uses of the new water gai light were successfully demonstrated here It is understood the light will shortly be introduced in IS ew Zealand, where it is expected it will be largely used in lightmgdistricts where ordinary gas ib not obtainable. The promoters ia their prospectus undertook to make ga« atfourpenc« per thousand feet. Buying for New Zealand is rery brisk in consequence of tho competition between the two steamship lines, which enables foreign buyers to do business advantageously in Sydney markets. Adelaide, June 6. Parliament was opened to-day by his Excellency the Governor, the Earl of Kintore. The speech from the throne stated that although the past season had been a bad one. yet it was hoped that the revenue would be sufficient to meet the expediture. The present prospects of the colony were very hopeful. June 7. Bounny, who on 23rd January was arrested on a charge of beating his wife to death, has been acquitted.
