9 (PER UNITED PRESS A88OOIATION. ) Dunediij, June 6. j Proctor, Jones & Co., an old estab--9 lished Dunedin firm of wholesale - merchants have called a meeting of their creditors for Monday. Chhistchubch, June 7. The well-known firm of Idghtband, 3 Allan and Co. have suspended payment, and go into liquidation at once. i The local creditors outside the Bank of New Zealand are small, but a considerable amount is owing by the firm in London. The weekly hands knocked off work last night, and the piece . hands will fiuish ou Saturday. The total liabilities are £120,000. Since 1872 they have been engaged in large transactions in the leather and grindery trade. The doors of the establishment are not yet closed, but 8 this is only left until the work at prei sent in hand is finished. The stops page of work is most unfortunate, a3 r about 320 hands will be suddenly ■ thrown out of woik, and the local * market for hideß seriously affected. p The assets are estimated at £130,000, [ showing a surplus of £10,000. The t failure is due to extended ramifications : which have \ r >ved unsuccessful There is a probability of the factory being resumed shortly on a more con- > deused basis.
