Police Protection
The following letter to Dr Mojtckton', J.P., from the Commissioner of Police, haa been handed to us for publication. It is in reply to a communication forwarded to the Minister of Justice, by the local Justices of the Peace, calling attention to the unprotected stute of the Borough during the frequent absencea of the Constable in charge : " Police Department,
" Wellington, 9th May, 1889. " Sir, — In jeply to the letter by the Jußticeß of Feilding, addressed to the Honorable the .Minister oi Justice, I have the honor to inform you, by his direction, that on occasions similar to the sitting of the Supreme Court the work devolving on the police is such, that it would often be impossible to relieve a Constable when necessarily absenfc. Arrangements will be made to meet the wishes of the Feilding community so i'ar as is possible, and when v Constable ca a be replaced during his absence by a man from another post it will be done. I may also inform you that an extra Consta? lo will be placed at Palmerston with this vit?w.
