Ruapehu Rampageous

(PEE UNITKD PEESS ASSOCIATION)

Wanganui, Tliis Day

The Kerioi correspondent of the Herald writes under date April 29th : — " This afte/noon abjut 2.30 the Wan o 'aehu River rose from 3 to 4 feet in less than half an hour and is still rising. The water is changing its color from a milky hue to a dirty black. As we have had no rains and the river up to to-day being lower than I can remember for years past, the only solution to my mind is that some volcanic eruption has taken place on Ruapehu, though, strange to say, no one here heard any particular noise."
