The Skating Rink
The Acme Boiler Skating Rink was duly opened in the Feilding Assembly Booms last night. The floor had been specially prepared for the purpose, and answered admirably. There was a very large attendance, the visitors including some from Palmerston, Marton, and other neighboring townships. Several of those who took the floor were experienced " hands " in the graceful art, but the greater part were mere tyros. Notwithstanding this, those who had never put on skates before, for the most part " shaped " very well indeed, and though, of course, some " spills " were inevitable, they were all taken in good part, and nobody was hurt. There was a good sprinkling of the fair sex, both among the Tinkers and spectators. A contingent of the Feilding Brass Band formed an orchestra, and their music added much to the pleasantness of the proceedings. The managers, Messrs Little & Henry, are to be congratulated on the opening of what has every appearance of proving a very successful season, As will be seen by advertisement the rink opens again on Friday and Saturday next, with special sessions for ladies.
