The Manchester Rifles paraded last night. There was a full muster, although a few absentees' were fined. Captain Pleasants instructed the men in guard mounting, relieving sentries, &c. After drill a circular was read from Wanganui re the Easter Encampment at Nelson, asking the corps to guarantee a certain sum for steamer hire. A resolution was passed affirming the demand to be excessive, and declining to give any guarantee whatever. This means that the corps does not intend to see Nelson this year. Another circular was read from Dunedin, inviting the corps to take part in a grand military fete there during Christmas time, on the occasion of opening the Otago Ex. hibition. No resolution was passed, but the men expressed themselves in favor of the trip, which offers peculiar attractions. Captain Pleasants informed the corps that arrangements would be made for prize firing among the members. The names of two recruits were handed in. The parade was then dismissed.
