Haira te Peri was put into the dock and the first indictment preferred against him was the murder of Frank Pook, on December sth. Mr Gully, of Wellington, with Mr Nolan, of Gisborne, appeared for the Crown. Mr Kenney with Mr Watson, of Gisborne, for the defence. Mr Gully made an eloquent opening address of an hour and a quarter.
