North Island Trunk Railway

A rumour is widely current that the Government intend next session to throw the whole weight of their influence in favour of the adoption of the Taranaki route for the completion of the North Island Trunk line, as againßt the Central route, deliberately adopted by Parliament several years ago on the recommendation of a Commission. We sinoerely hope this is not true. If it is, however, we trust that all the Wellington provincial members, will, as one man, resist such a proposal and will organise the strongest possible opposition to it, even if Ministers should be unwise enough to stake their official existence on the fate of the proposal. — Times.
