Bishop Seiwyn has just received a legacy of between £50,000 and £60,000. Reefton, This Day. Quigley's Rainbow Hotel, situated in the suburbs ofthe town, was destroyed by fire at five this morning. Insured for £200 in Standard. Estimated loss £1000. The occupants escaped. Not a thread of anything was saved. Wellington, This Day. Dr King, of the Seaoliff Asylum, Dunedin, has been appointed medical superintendent of the Auckland Asylum, at a salary of £600. The Commissioners appointed to inquire into the working of the Lincoln Agricultural College report that the Board of Governors failed to manage the School of Agriculture so as to produce the best results ; that the fees are too high ; that a reduction could be made by utilising the products of the farm so as to bring the , oost to about £30 per annum. Oamaru, March 6. A farmer named Duncan Campbell, residing at Hampden, attempted to commit suicide by cutting his throat this morn- ' ing. He is expected to recover. No ' reason can be given for the act. The crops in this district have been < gathered m splendid condition. The yield of cereals will be good, but owing to < the dry weather, potatoes are not expected to yield heavily. Blenhbim, March 6.
