Fire.
On Sunday morning a ten roomed house in King street, the property of Mr Henry Holland, was destroyed by fire. The nightwatchman, Mr Pawson, saw the fire about two o'clock and promptly gave the alarm by ringing the firebell in Manchester Square. The Fire Brigade was quickly on the spot, ready to do what was possible to save the building, but the fire had obtained too firm a hold for them to do any good, beyond the destroying of fences in order to prevent the flames being communicated to the adojining premises. Even the out buildings of the house could not be saved. The house was erected by Mr Holland some eight or nine years ago as a private residence, and was well finished and complete in every respect as regards conveniences. Mr Holland having removed to Bunnythorpe, where he has a sawmill at work, the house has been unoccupied for some time past. We have not heard any reliable conjecture as to the origin of the fire which is, at present, mysterious, to say the least of it. The insurance was £300 in the Northern. An Insurance Agent informs us there will be an investigation of the strictest character.
