In reply to Mr Macarthur Mr Bull informed the Board that, at the meeting held in January with members of the Rangitikei County Council, re the Onepuhi bridge all they had done was to agree tenders should be called for an 80 feet span. He (Mr Bull) had not written to the Government asking them to apportion the cost of the bridge between the two bodies, as he had been requested at the special meeting of this Board. With reference to Reid's claim for £60, the chairman did not thiuk the Board was liable. The water had gone across the road by its natural fall. Mr Reeves said the damage would not have been done if the drain had been cleared. Mr Bull said that was merely a matter opinion. Mr Reeve gave a general description of the alleged damage. Mr Macarthur said they could not be too careful in avoiding causes of litigation, as it was impossible to account for the vagaries of sympathetic juries. After a general discussion on the merits of the case so far as they were before the Board, Mr Macarthur said they could go and look at the place. Mr Bull suggested they should all go down. It was resolved that a letter be sent to Mr Reid stating the members of the Board would wait on him on Monday the 25th instant, to discuss the matter and examine the ground, and to consider the Board's position. Proposed by H. P. Jones, seconded by G.
