(PER UNITED PRRSS ASbOCIA'MOIT) Gbkyjiocth, February 4. At the cattle market to-day bullocks fetched (Wanganui), £6 12s. One lot was withdrawn, the market being overstocked- Beef is quoted at 16s to 17s per 1001 b. Mutton.— The market was fully supplied, but all was sold; average, 11s 6d all round. Lambs, 47 to hand, averaged 10s 6d. Pigs. — Large supply, and all sold at fair market rates. Hokitika, February 4. Mrs H. distance, wife of a settler liv* ing at Akura, about 100 miles south of this place, committed suicide on the 26th of January by drowning. Her clothing, pockets etc., were weighted with stones to prevent her floating. She had suffered from mental aberration for some months. Auckland, February 4. Professor Baldwin's balloon ascent and parachuto drop were safely accomplished to-day. The aeronaut ascended from the Tramway Company's grounds at Epsom to a height of over 2000 feet, and descended to a spot about 600 yards from where ho left the earth. A great concourse witnessed the feat, and large crowds wbs assembled on Mount Eden. Mount Hobaon, and at other points of vantage. The German warship Eber tailed for Samoa to-day. This Day. The Premier addresses the electors on Property Tax and its substitute, Land and Income Tax, on Wednesday. Bradbury's draper's shop was burned down on Sunday night. Insured in South British for £720. Wellington, Tim Day. The petition to release Cbej mJ, inprisoned for forging bond warrants, was rftfaaed. : ....
