The Railway Commissioners

At a meeting of the Cabinet this afternoon,, the question of Railway Commissioners was under consideration, and the. appointments allotted as follows: — Chief Commissioner, Mr James McKerrow (Surveyor-General); Assistant Commissioners, Mr J. P. Maxwell (General-Manager of Railways), and Mr W. M. Hannay, (Assistant General Manager of Railways). The salaries for the positions are:— Chief Commissioner, £ 1200 per annum; Assistant Commissioners, each £1000 per annum. The Premier states that no gentlemen were recommended by the AgentGeneral for the position. The name of one gentleman was submitted by Sir Francis Dillon Bell, but before the matter came under consideration the gentleman telegraphed to have his name withdrawn.
