Education Board

The usual monthly meeting of the Education Board was held on Thursdaj' last Present — Messrs Sanaou (in the chair), Bridge, Baker, Fry, York, Notmaii, aud Beckett. Correspondence — A letter was read from the Feilding Committee respecting the action of the Board re teacher. Mr Dowling headmaster of the Feilding school wrote resigning his position as headmaster. It was resolved that a. letter be sent to the Feildiug. School Committee stating that the .Secretary's letter of October 9th, had been sent under a misapprehension of his instructions, the board not haviug deputed Mr Sanson to. confer, with, the Committee respecting the head teacher. The Board whilst recognising the necessity for a change in the mastership of the school, were desirous of allowing Mr Dowliug either to resign or to be transferred to, another school, and it was . with this .object that Mr Sanson was requested to see Mr Do wling personally. Further, the Board proposed to appoint a new master after a consultation with the Committee, to take charge after the Christmas vacation. It was resolved also, That Mr Dowling's resignation be accepted, but that he be informed that, in the opinion of the Board, it would be to the advantage of the school to have it opened after the vacation under a new teacher. The Board would, therefore, suggest that Mr Dowling's salary should cease on the 3 1st January, and that he should not be called on to resume work as a teacher after the vacation. It was also resolved,' That applications from certain teachers in the Board's employ be invited for headmastershipin.Feilding School, aud the executive have power of forwarding the names of those who apply — Miss Lighthourn wrote resigning her position as first njistress. of the Feilding School ; it;was resolved, That the resignation, be accepted, 'and the. question of Siting the vacancy be left with the Executive Committee to consuU the.
