Kiwitea Road Board
Saturday, November 17th, 1888. (Con ■ Hutted from last, issue J T.e letu-rts from the Pal.uerston Saiftll Farm Association, tho Engineer reported that he had no authority to Bpeir<! any money, except as authorised by the Waste Lands Board. Re deviation of road in section 44, and tress felled thereon, the Secretary was instructed to write to the owner of the section and instruct him to remove the obstructions thereon. J. Lynch waa granted permission to fell bush on roadline on the Board's usual terms, the track to be kept open. F. S. (ioodbehere waa authorised to fell bush on roadliue in front of his section in the Feilding Small Farm Association Block. There was some discussion on the price to be allowed for felling: this bush, Mr Lucas being of opinion there should be a certain uniformity in the rates. The Engineer said the bush on that line was very heavy. Mr Lucas moved, That permission be given at 355, to be paid on the Board's usual terms. Seconded by Mr Mills and carried. Re letter from the Secretary of the Hospital Board, Wanganui, in the matter of elections, the Clerk reported that there was some mistake on the part of the writer. The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr Bam her for further information. Mr Ihleine waited on the Board re damage alleged to be done to his property. Mr Lucas said he had had come conversation with Mr Ehleine, and the latter had offered to take £15 as a full and complete compensation for any supposed damage, and also to give the Board an indemnity. The Chairman asked how much an acre Mr Ehleine would take for the land required by the Board . Mr Ehleine said he would not do it under £10. Mr Williamson thought it would be as well to pay the £15. Mr Ehleine said whatever work he did he would do under the direction of the Board's Engineer. Mr Williamson proposed, That the Engineer go over the ground with Mr Ehleine, and report at next meeting In the meantime the Clerk to prepare the idemnity bond, the Board agreeing to pay £15. — Mr Lticas seconded, and the motion was carried. Tenders were opened for works on Finuie' road. Proposed by Mr Taylor, seconded by Mr Lucas, That the tender of E. G. McDermott be accepted for Nos. 1 and 2 contracts on Finnis' road. Moved by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Williamson, That £1000 out of the £3000 fixed deposit be withdrawn from the Bank. — Carried. Moved by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Williamson, That tenders be called — to be in by next meeting — for one mile of metalling on Taonui road. — Carried. The usual monthly accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
