The Manchester Rifles will assemble ' for judging distance practice on Fri- ' ■day next at the Barracks of 5 p.m. * The inspection parades of the : Manchester Rifles for December will be beld on the 7th and 14th prox. An examination of candidates for commissions will take place in Wanganui next January. An unpleasant position was created in Volunteer circles in Christchurch •oa Saturday morning by the disqualification of the Scottish Rifles for independent and volley firing. When the hits were counted they were found to «xceed the number of cartridges issued bo some men must have fired more than their proper number of shots. At the Centennial Rifle Meeting on Saturday the Intercolonial match, New Zealand v. Victoria, was won by the former with 1608 against 1516. In the International match, 400, 500, and 600 yards, 7 shots' 10 men aside, was won by the Irish 808 points, English 782, Australia 779. The meeting concluded on Saturday.
