He s»w land, bnt the captain said they were fifteen miles off, and in no danger. Shortly after the vessel got among the breakers, and struck. At daybreak three men took a line off in a boat which capsized, and they B warn ashore. The captain refused to leave the vessel, though begged to do so, saying it was safer there. The cook and another man stayed with him, but the latter afterwards swam ashore. When the vessel broke up the captain was seen swimming, but a succession of wares overwhelmed him, and nothing ha* been' • seen of him since. The cook's body was recovered and buried on the beach after the inquest.
