CHRISTCHURCH CATTLE MARKETS.
Chbistchubch, October 25. There was a full attendance with grand weather at the market to-day. Fat Cattle. — A larger entry than there was demand for, and therefore sluggish sale. Good beef would be worth about 18s to 19s and inferior much lower.
Store Cattle — For store cattle better prices were realised, comparatively, than were obtained for fat, some ■3-year-old steers fetching as high as
£0 7s
Fat Sheep — There was about the usual supply of sheep. Prime fat sheep in the yards were comparatively few, and fetched, although the market for them was certainly easier, about the same as last week. Second rate sheep were not in great demand, and suffered a marked drop, but shorn sheep especially fat, maintained previous rates. Prime mutton, in wool, may therefore be quoted yet at 3d per lb, with lower quotatious for other qualities. Store Sheep— Quite a large number of store sheep were penned, and fetched good prices : cross bred hoggets, Sb 9d to 11s 4d ; cross-bred ewes with lambs, to 14s 3d ; pure-bred Southdown ewes and lambs, at 20s per •couple. Fat Lam bs- The entry to-day of fat lambs was the largest of the season ; lines of fat lambs from os to 9s 6d were held.
Pigg — Fair entry and good demand; best pork was worth 3£d per lb.
