George Thomas and Co. report as follows : — The demand for feeding grain is of a retail character now that the winter season is over, and the volume of business has materially decreased ; it is mainly owing to the large export inquiry existing for oats that present prices are maintained ; the Hauroto alone took away 12,000 sacks this week. Quotations general ly are unaltered, with the exception of New Zealand onions, which are now unprocurable; Melbourne samples are offering at £15 per ton ; this figure includes an import duty of 25 per cent. New potatoes are now quoted at £8 per ton. the large quantities to hand being responsible for the heavy reduction on this line. We quote flour (roller), £10 10s, and stone process £9 10s; fowls' wheat, 3s to 3s 6d ; bran, £3 16s; pollard, £4; oats, short, 2s 6d to 2s 7d, long Danish and Tartarian, 2s 5d to 2s 6d ; oatmeal, £11 10s to £12 per ton ; maize, 3s 6d; feed barley, 2s lOd ; Cape barley, 3s 6d ; beans, 3s 4d ; pea?, 3s 3d; Derwent potatoes (old,) Oamaru growth, £4 ss; other descriptions £3

15s to £4; onions, £15 ; pearl barley, £19 ; split peas, £14. Cheese old, 3d to 5d per lb ; the first parcel of the new make will reach the market next week, and may be expected to rule at s£d per lb. Hams and bacon, factory 7d to 7^d per lb ; farmers' cure, 4d to sd ; honey, 3£d to 5d ;

lard, sd ; fresh butter, 6d to 7d ; salt ditto, 7d ; pastry, 2d ; eggs, 8d per doz. Poultry is in active inquiry ; fowls 3s 6d ; ducks, 4s ; turkeys, 7s 6d ; and geese, 7s per pair. The fruit market is quiet, and shipments are confined to the usual descriptious from Sydney — oranges, lemons and mandarins — for the finer samples of which there is a good demand ; the commoner sorts, however, drug the market.
