The miners arrested for tailing part in the riot at Adamstown, four miles from JNewcastie, have appealed against the sentence passed by the magistrate, and the case was heard yesterday. His Honour acquitted the accused, and said that the verdict in regard to one prisoner was directly agaiust the evidence, and contrary to law. He recommended the Crow n Prosecutor to inform the Attorney General of the impropriety of trying any such cases in coal districts.
The conference of the deletes frdih the mine managers and the miners has made satisfactory progress toward the settlement of the matters now in dispute. The men have given away to the minimum and the managers to the maximum proposals, by whioh the masters defined the standard of the seams.
Tlie cable between Port Darwin and Baujoewangi has again been interrupted.

A curious interview has takeu plaoe between Sir Thomas Mcllwraith, Premier, and Lady Musgrave. The latter assured the Premier that Sir Anthony Musgrave had entertained no ill-feeling against him, and her ladyship refuted the charges of parsimony which had so often been levelled at the late Governor. She produced books of Sir Anthony's, which showed that his expenses had exceeded his salary by £3000, tke deficiency beine met by her private purse.
