G. H. Ludlow, who shot himself at Helensville, died in the Auckland Hospital this morning. i The Point Resolution Land Commission, which has been sitting during the week, concluded the hearing of evidence to-day. Messrs H. N. Brewer, G. S. Kissling, and a number of the members of the General Trust Board, and trustee of the property have been examined, but no fresh information on the subject was eicited. Counsel will be heard on Mort day. Chbistchubch, October 12 In Chambers to-day, Mr Justice Ward quashed the conviction of O'Connor, con victed of illicit distillation at Timaru, on the ground that his term of imprisonment was longer than is prescribed by the section of the Act under which he was convicted. Wellington, October 12. At the Divorce Court, rules absolute was made in Thurston ▼. Thurston, Moeller v. Moeller, and Wilkinson v. Wilkinson, Bluff, October 12 Captain Carey, of the Rotomahana> noticed distress signals when pausing Dog Island this morning, and reported the matter to Harbour Board, who sent the tugouttoascertainthe cause. Itwas found that the fishing smack Nelly was wrecked last Tuesday morning several miles off Doe Island. During a heavy gale a sea struck her, carrying a way her rudder, and breaking her deck in. James Young, the master, and unmarried man, was washed off and drowned. The other men, John Young and James Dnncan, were rescued by the lifehthousekeeper, who observed the accident, and pluckily put off in an open boat, risking his own life.
