Messrs Caffey Bros, are inspecting a site on the Neapean River with a view to establishing a large irrigation settlement there.
The young man Arthur Coulton, who shot his stepfather, Patrick James Keenahan, publican of Moor Green, Tarnworth, on September 3rd, the latter having, it is alleged, seduced prisoner's sister, has been convicted on a charge of manslaughter, and sentenced to two years and nine months' imprisonment. The sentence will probably be commuted, as Coulton is said to be in a rapid decline, and cannot live for any length of time. October 12. The Stockton miners have again gone on strike owing to the masters employing non unionists and coal trimmers. The Wallsend masters are now employing non-unionist in thirty mines The Stock Boards have made a sue* cesstul experiment with M. Pasteur's remedy for sheep disease known as anthrax, and they have recommended the Government to adopt it. Hobabt, October 12. A deputation of stock owners waited on Government suggesting that the New Zealand Government should be asked to extend the quarantine period for cattle imported from ether co.onies from one month to six months. The Premier is in communication with the New Zealand Government on the subject.
