Manchester Rifles will parade on the 12th instant for inspection, and on the 19th idem for practice at the butts. Lieut. A. P. Douglas, R.N., of the New Zealand Militia, has been appointed Major, and also Staff-Officer of Artillery and Inspector of Ordnance Stores and Equipments. " Lance Corporal" in the Herald Ba y ß : — Those who are taking part in the Victorian shooting, or are thinking of doing so, will be pleased to learn that a cable received by Captain Sommerville, from Major Kelly, secretary of t.he Victorian Rifle Association intimates that free railway passes will be granted to New Zealand competitors. Although the project of sending a Wellington Rifle team to the Victoria Rifle Association meeting has fallen threugh the following Volunteers have determined to proceed to Melbourne at their own expense and take part iv the shooting : — Lieutenaut Davej (Petone Navals), Sergeant Kucher (D Battery,) Volunteers Wilson anc Ross (City Kifl««) Volunteer Ballingei (Guards), Williams (Navala), Scot (D Batters), and probably Captaii Collins, Treasurer of the New Zea land Rifle Association.
