The Mahakipawa Goldfield

DEEP-LINKING GROUND FOE 5000 MEN. MORE SPLENDID SPECIMENS. (Post's Correspondent.) Havelock, Hept. 25. Mr Litchfield, who has made the journey to Mahakipawa via Waikakaho, says that the prospectors at the new tub 1 ! are very reticent, but have obtained splendid prospects. In the Waikakaho the sinkiug is not deep (about 4ft), but men with capital, to the number of 5000, can find room for deep sinking workings. It is estimated there is 400 men on the Waikakaho. The prospectors, Messrs Hart and Gibson, obtained 2lbs weight of gold f ron> 4ft square of ground at a depth of 4£ft. Mr Logan has returned from the reefs with splendid specimens. Gold is showing in the stone as large as peas. I have just seen some splendid specimens brought to town by Mr Douslin.
