The provincial sales have been affected bythe higher rates, many buyers being forced to bny Plates and inferior Home-killed to enable them to retain their low retail quotations. It is satisfactory to compare present prices with the rates obtained at this season last year, when 4d per lb was the highest price given for New Zealand mutton. New Zealand is almost out of stock. Nearly all the recent supplies have been heavy weights, but values have been well maintained at 6d to 6£d per lb. New Zealand beef is very difficult to move, owing to the low prices ruling for American refrigerated, but stocks are carefully handled, so that recent shipments should do well.
