The Clouds Rolling By

_ — -+. The news, of the scarcity of wheat in Home markets, and the almost certainty of an early and substantial '.rise in value, will be of comfort to our 'Canterbury neighbours and infuse fresh hope in the minds of the farmers of the Plains. They "have for a long time been struggling against ruinously low prices, but now there is every appearance of a change for the better and a fair reward for their perseverance and labours. The price of New Zealand meat at Home also maintains a remunerative figure, and although the wool market is fluctuating, there is no reason to fear any serious fall in values. The dairy industry shows signs of an early "boom" and of very large developments ; while there are also most hopeful indications of improved mining results in all parts of the colony. That a large amount of foreign capital is likely to seek investment in New Zealand shortly, is absolutely certain, and altogether, it is evident that the lowest depths of the depression have been touched and that there is every reason for solid faith in the future of the colony. Confidence is undoubtedly being restored in the public mind, and it rests on solid grounds. New Zealand may not — indeed, we hope it will not— witness any. repetition of the feverish, speculative,, and unnatural prosperity which it enjoyed for a few years some time .ago, and which Victoria is now enjoying; but everything points to an early restoration of conditions of sound progress and substantial wellbeing.— Postr_
