In order to allow the members to attend the Cantata to-morrow night, the parade of the Manchester "Rifles has been postponed. The parades for this month will be held on the 21st and 28th instants instead of the 1 4th and 21st idem. In the Garrison Orders dated 7th September Lieut. F. W. Holden, of the Wanganui City Rifles, is appointed Acting Adjutant for the West Coast Battalion vide Captain Hutchison on leave of absence. ■" Willy" Ballinger, the ex-cham-pion has been 'making some tall shooting at Wellington with his MartiniHenry, He scored -98 out of a peßsihle 105 at 200, 300, and 500 yards, his brother A. Ballinger made 86 on the same occasion. The Duke of Cambridge has issued an order for officers of line regiments to wear brown kid gloves on parade. These will be a vast improvement on the white ones. Lieutenant H S. E. Hobday, Ist Canterbury Battalion N.Z.R.V., is gazetted as having passed the second course of instruction in Fortifications and Field Surveying. The list includes thirty-two names, nearly all gentlemen of the regular forces. Mr Hobday is the only one outside the forces of the United Kingdom. The Wanganui representatives for Victoria are practising steadily with Martini-Henrys. Flyger and Foster were out on Monday ; both did well, the former getting the possible at 200 yds, and the later making 23 at both 600 and 700 yds, or 82 out of 105 at 400, 500 600, and 700 yds.
