Two Adventurers
Yesterday morning two young lade named Wursp, : the eldest of whom may have counted eleven or twelve summers, left the house of their parents, who reside at Crofton, in search of adventures. Their united capital and effects was represented by two shillings and the clothes they stood up in. After a pleasant walk they arrived at the Hatcoinbe Railway Station where, with a bright confidence in the future to. provide meanb r they invested ♦he whole «f their money in a couple of square-meals ac the refreshment rooms. Thus strengthened and prepared to face all difficulties or dangers, they trudged down the railway line, and arriving at Feiiding made a proper examiuatijn of the railway station and goods shed. After their curiosity had been isutistied, they begged of the gu;»rd of the down --train to give them a lift to a place called Palmerstun, whicty they had heard was somewhere on the line in the direction of Wellington. • They were referred to Constable.- Meelmn who had been watching their movements, as they were evidently strangers.., The constable put some questioßS to. the eldest, who frankly stated that- h8 had long made up his mind to go to sea, but that he had not, until he had n>ade up his mind. < when he would start, told his younger brother for fear of discovery. , /V He meant , to make #61-, lington his. port of departure, and iioped to reach that place in a few days. Constable Meehan thought it would be aaw.ell.for .the, parents to be consulted before that step were taken, and escorted the adventurers to Mr McLenaghan's boarding house, near the station, where they, .were very kindly looked after. ' Tjijs morning they were sent back by train, ! anji we hope will arrive home none ihe worse for. their trip. Although they have done wrong in running away- from their parents, and giving them an amount of terrible anxiety, yet we cannot help admiring the pluck of the little fellows, and hope their punishment will be laid on -with a lignt hand.
