At Extraordinary Rumour

An extraordinary occurrence is w ported in connection with the body c Captain Bailey who was drowned ol Wellington Heads on Thursday . lasi The body reached Waifara by- th train from Wellington last evening a 5 p.m., and was taken to the deceased' residence. Father Cassidy, Mr Dickej the schoolmaster, . and some other were present on its arrival, and it wa decided to open the coffin, which wa enclosed in a hermetically sealed case When the outer case was opened M Dickey looked through the glass ii the coffin-lid and uttered an exclama tion of. horror. Father Cassidy alsi looked -and he states that he saw th eyes of the deceased open and shu several times. Mr Dickey also de -clares that he saw the eyes open an< shut. The coffin was at once opened the body was taken out, and attempt! made to reanimate by every means In the meantime Dr Blunden y as sen for, but being away from home hi; -aid could not be procured for severa .hours later. The means for resuscita tion were kept up for over an hour but without success, and when Di 3lunden arrived he pronounced life t< be extinct, although he admitted the body had an unusually life-like appearance, especially considering thai the deceased, had been drowned five days ago previously. The deceased was buried this; afternoon at Waitara with Masonic honours.
