William Moore was charged at the Police Court with stealing a mare at Dome Valley, and remanded. The accused was "married at Warkworth yesterday, and on arriving by steamer at Auckland last night, with his bride, on his wedding tour, was apprehended, and placed in the cells all night. • • The cutter South Carolina was upset in a squall off Pigeon Bocks; but the steamer lona rescued the crew, who had taken to the dingy. Dunedin. August 31. A private cable says coal in Melbourne bad advanced to L 5 a ton yesterday. Walter Gibson, a rabbitter employed on Muir's run has been missing about about eight days ; when last seen he was helplessly drunk. In anticipation of a large dividend there is considerable speculation in National Insurance shares. Present quotations are 19s 10|d.
