Mcßain ; Southern District, Sir H. J. Clarke. Sydney, August 30. News has been received here that in the glove contest between Jackson, the champion of Australia, and Godfrey, the coloured champion of America, fought in San Francisco, the former was victorious, having knocked his opponent out in eighteen rounds. A European named Gillham has been admitted to the Lepers' Hospital in an advanced stage of leprosy. Mr J. N. Brunker; Minister of Lands, is mediating in the colliery dispute, and it is stated there is a possibility of the settlement of the difficulty. Freights in the international shipping trade have been increased 25 per cent. Men shipped at Auckland on the Zealandia have been posted as " black leys." __^_________
