FEILDING v. WOODYILLE.

fßy " Off Side.") The Feilding team journeyed to Woodville on Saturday last, and tried conclusions with the Woodville team for the first time. The weather was a bit foggy, and the ground was rather slippery. A large number of spectators, including a goodly number of the fair sex, rolled up to witness the match. The game was exceedingly fast throughout, and after a capital display, was won by Feilding by 3 points to nil. The following represented Feilding — Full-back: J. Keen; three-quart-ers : GK Saywell, Broughton, Parr ; halves : Henry, Fowler ; forwards : E. Whisker, Hodges, Evans, Bellve, Crook, FitzGerald, Hirst, W. and M. Belfit ; umpire : Mr H. Booth. Feilding kicked off.- After about eight minutes play, during which time the game was fairly even, Evans got the. ball near Woodville 25's, and passed to Henry, who passed to Parr. Parr then made a splendid run, passing all the opposing backs, and got in behind the posts. Saywell took the kick at goal, and was successful in his effort. The remainder of the time the game was fairly even on both sides, being within an ace of scoring on several occasions. During the second spell JSay well made a splendid attempt to pot a goal, the ball just going a few inches too wide. The play was wonderfully fast, the ball travelling from one end of the field to the other with great rapidity at times. In the second tefm Woodville played very hard to equalise matters, but the Feilding backs collared too well, and they were prevented from getting over the line. The play was very loose all through, there being very few tight scrums, in which the Woodville forwards, who were the heaviest, always had the advantage, and they also • made some splendid dribbling rushes. I may mention that this game was more like the real game of football than any match the Feilding team has played this season, being coufiaed to the principal features all through, viz., passing , dribbling, good tackling, an I useful kicking. Had there been much scrummage work, I rather incline to the opinion that the visitors would have found, the home team more than a match for them with the weak forward team they had. For the winners H. Whisker played an exceptionally good game ; the way he collared and dribbled was a sight seldom witnessed in any match. Hodges, Evans, and M. Belfit were the pick of the forwards. Saywell, Fowler, and Parr were the best of the backs, the latter especially distinguishing himself. For the losers Bowden (on the wing) played a good game. Little, Nicholson, Gammon, Masterton, and Howard also played well. The game was played in a most friendly spirit.
