Mr Pharazyn moved, That no fresh licenses be granted for kauri timber-cutting until fresh legislation dealing with the same be passed. The motion was agreed to. In the House of Representatives, Replying to questions it waa stated that the Public Works Statement would not be brought down till sometime next week. — That assuming there was no increase of letters, the reduc tion of postage on letters for placesbeyond the colony from 6d to 3d would mean a loss to the colony of L 9900, but the colony would gain to the extent of L 15,000 by withdrawing tbe subsidies and paying for the ships* authorised to carry mails — a rate not exceeding one-third of the postage rate charged for the transmission of mails. The Otago Central Railway Bill wasfurtber considered in Committee, but Sir George Grey obstructed the measure. On the suggestion of Mr W. P, Reeves, the galleries were cleared, and the House proceeded with the Bill. July 27. The House is still sitting. At 9.30 a.m. a motion was carried to re-open the galleries. No progress bas been made with the Bill. Several speeches of three hours' duration were delivered. Members assert that they will carry on stonewalling until twelve to-mor-row night. Later. After sitting for 80 hours continuously on the Otago Central Railway Bill, the House adjourned at 8.3(> p.m. till Monday. Stonewalling tactics were adopted.
