James Knight, licensee of the Mait** land Hotel, was fined £10 and costs for permitting dice to be thrown, and his license was endorsed, and for selling after hours, £2 and costs, but so that he would not lose his license the second conviction was not endorsed. Auckland, Juiy 28. A man n«med Frank Lyon died in the Hospital yesterday. He had a tooth pulled at the •' Golden Chariot" some weeks ago. Erysipelas followed, causing the loss, of one eye, and then death. He has been in the Hospital ever since the tooth was pulled. Dr Lindsay has given a certificate that death resulted from erysipelas and gangrene, following on tooth extraction, probably caused by a faalty instrument. There was no inquest. Wellington, July 27. At the Magistrate's Court this afternoon the youth George Henry Hod get ts was committed for trial on a charge of criminal assault on a child of tender years.
