Kiwitea Road Board

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held on Saturday afternoon, last. Present — Messrs Taylor (chairman), Williamson, Haythorne, and Lucas. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A deputation from the Sandon Small Farm Association waited on the Board to ask if they would take over certain works done, and apply to the Government for the deferred thirds due to the Association in order that they might pay the contractors who were waiting for their money. . Mr Tomlinson submitted reports from the District Survey office on the work that had been done. There were various complaints as to the work, which were alleged as reasons why it had not been passed, and the thirds paid. The Board explained that before they could take over the work it would have to be properly done and passed, and that the expense of the inspection by the Board's Engineer would have • to be borne by the Association. If the Engineer reported favorably the Board would have nothing to do but to take over the work, and apply to Government for payment. The work must, however, be done to the satisfaction of the Board's Engineer. The deputation were asked to leave the plans, specifications, and other documents relative to the works, and were instructed to write formally to the Board on the matter, when they would have the works inspected and taken over, and apply for the money. A deputation from the Birmingham Small Farm Association waited on the Board to. ask for permission to fell certain road lines.
