Palmerston Borough
The action of Milverton against the Borough of Palmerston will cost the Borough between £600 and £700, "equal to a rate of about a half -penny in the £ on the rateable value of the property. And who benefits ? It is estimated by those who have gone through similar experience that plaintiff's costs over and above the amount i of judgment will leave him little to i receive out of the sum awarded. Commenting on the case, the Manawatu Times says it was not one of speculative purchase for litigious purposes. | Plaintiff had always maintained he ! was receiving injury through the acI tion of the Council, and his persistence in this was so great that at last a time came when he was treated with scant courtesy by the Council. The Council will now have to consider what is best to be dono. It has received a sharp lesson that the representation of any ratepayer must not be despised, as there is no doubt the whole trouble might have been avoided by the exercise of a little forbearance and tact in the first instance.
