REPORT OF SYDNEY MARKETS. The N.Z. L. and M.A. Company, report under date June 28th, 1888 : — Cheese (duty 2d per lb) is in large supply, and for best N.Z. sorts 6£d to 7d is a full figure, loaf descriptions ruling a halfpenny higher. Hams (duty 2d per lb) are dull and prices are not maintained, best N.Z. light weights being to-day ; quoted at from lid to Is. — Bacon (duty 2d per -lb).— The market continues fully supplied and best local machine and hand-cured is quoted at from 4d to 6d, New Zealand cured being nominally worth from 8d to 9d with little or no inquiry. Wheat (free).— The market is, if anything slightly weaker, though a enquiry still exists for New Zealand Tuscan, but the additional haulage charge of 20 per cent, lately imposed by the Government on all cereals carried inland from Sydney is already found to be a serious hindrance to business at this point, and several large country millers find they have now no option but to import from "Victoria by rail. Chick wheat. — Market glutted. Quotations rule from 2s6dto2slod. Oats (free).— Owing to recent heavy arrivals both by steamer .and sailer, together with advices of shipments now close at hand, prices show a downward tendency, and we quote : — Best milling up to 2s 3d good bright stout heavy feed 2s Id to 2s 2d good feed 2s Od inferior and dark up to Is 9d prime seed (still scarce) 2s 3d. Potatoes (free).— At the moment the market is nearly bare of New Zealand potatoes and spot parcels are ruling considerably higher than when last writing, but as it is understood that the incoming steamer brings a heavy shipment we do not anticipate that present prices will be maintained. We quote : - Prime N.Z. Derwents £3 12s 6d Do. Circular Heads £3 15s Do. Warrnambools £2 15s. New Zealand Hemp (free) is without improvement, stocks in bond still being very heavy. Fungus (free) may again be quoted at 4£d though buyers do not evince any wßlingness to buy "to arrive" at this figure. Flour (free) is somewhat weaker than when last writing, and business is at present still confined to trade parcels merely, speculation being prohibited for the reasons given in our last circular. We quote :— Roller brands from £8 5s to £9 5s stone brands £7 15s to. £B 15s. Hides (free).— The depressed condition of the London markets prohibits shippers from operating; and the bulk of the week's supplies have been consequently taken to fill the require, ments of the local trade. Prices show no appreciable change, and we quote : Prime, extra heavy, 3^d ; to 3fd ; heavy, 3d to 3£d; medium, 2fd to 2f ; light, 3*d to 3|d ; dry, 3d to 4d. Tallow (free). — Hjme advices continue to bo of a very discouraging .^nature, and further concessions to "^buyers have therefore been necessary in order to effect sales locally. We quote:— Prime beef, £17 5s to £18 ; medium, £16 to £17 ; inferior, £12 to £15 10s per ton. . Sheepshins (free).— The satisfactory tenor of late cablegrams concerning the progress of the London Wool sales has beneficially affected this market and at late sales competition has been brisk. We quote: — Best full woolled, 4fd to 5Jd ; medium, 3£d to 4£d; short broken and pelts, l£d to 3Jd.
