The Frozen Meat Trade
> A gentleman who has lately returnee from a visit to the Old Country informs us, that when he was in England he , * made some enquiry as to the sale ol i the frozen mutton, and espeoiallj among the butchers in the different , towns he was visiting. General satisfaction was expressed with the quality and weight of the sheep, aud of the way they were dressed. The butchers have as many cat-cases as they require seit from the freezing stores ie London each day, aud the cost to them would be the same as we get telej graphed here, at that time 3f d to 4d I per lb, and in one town it was sold at halfpenny per lb less than the price of the English mutton. The price of a neck of frozen mutton was 5£ per lb. The price varied ia tbe towns, but with a cost at that time of from 3£ d to 4d per lb, and about an average of a farthing per lb for carriage from London, it will be seen that the butchers are the men who have taken the large profits out of the frozen mutton, trade and will continue to do so until the prejudice of the British public against it is a thing of the past.
