George Thomas and Co. report produce prices as follows :— Short oats are very firm at last quotations, 2s, Id to 2s 3d, and Tartarian and Danish feed, Is lid to 2s; seed descriptions, 2s 4d to 2s 6d ; chaff, £3 to £4 ; oatmeal £9 58 to £9 10s ; flour, unaltered, roller, £9 ; stone, £8 10s, for sacks ; milling wheat, 3s to 3s 3d; fowls' ditto, 2s 6d broken, and 2s 9d for whole samples; wheatmeal, £8 10s; maize, 3s 9d; split peas, 18s; -beans, 3s 6d. /Potatoes have advanced quite 5s per ton, and are now firm at 55s ; pitting operations having now commenced) we look upon this advance as ah assured one. Onions, £4 ; carrots, £2 10s ; turnip o , £2 10s ; cheese, 4£d ; honey, 4d to sd ; eggs, dull at Is per doz; hams and bacon, 7|d; fowls, 2s 9d to 3s; ducks, 4s; geese, 5s 6d; and turkeys, 7s 6d per pair.; Tlie late realisations for shipments of Hobart apples being so low, coupled with the fact of a protective duty, has caused shippers to temporarily withdraw from New Zealand. As the scarcity increases no doubt buyers will prepare themselves to offer prices which will induce further consignments. Oranges command only moderate attention, and until this fruit becomes fully ripe business must necessarily be of a limited nature.
